What Documents Do You Need to Cross for Medical Treatment?

The driver cannot solve a document problem at the gate, and the gate is a bad place to discover one. Here is what every passenger needs before the day of the trip.

Every passenger, every crossing

Everyone in the vehicle needs valid travel documents for both directions — the patient, the companion, the family member who came along at the last minute. There is no exception for a short trip, for a medical reason or for someone who has crossed a hundred times before.

Check the expiry dates well ahead of your travel date. An expired document is the single most common reason a trip does not happen, and it is entirely avoidable.

Bring the medical paperwork too

Carry your appointment confirmation, the clinic's name and address, and the contact number of your surgeon or coordinator. It makes the crossing conversation simpler, it makes our job easier if we need to reach the clinic, and it is essential if you intend to use the medical lane.

If you are returning with medication, keep it in its original packaging with the prescription. Rules on what may be brought back are set by the authorities, not by your clinic and not by us — check the current requirements before you buy.

What you may not carry

Restricted foods, alcoholic beverages, cigarettes, controlled substances and undeclared cash exceeding $10,000 USD are prohibited in our vehicles. This is not a preference; it protects every passenger and the operation itself.

Anything in your luggage is your responsibility. If you are not certain whether something can cross, the time to ask is before it is in the vehicle.

Travelling with a minor or with a pet

A minor crossing without both parents may need additional documentation. Requirements change, so check the current rules for your specific situation rather than relying on what a friend did two years ago.

Pets need their own documents, commonly including a veterinary health certificate, and they travel only on our Pet-Friendly Private Transportation service. Again, the paperwork is the owner's to arrange.

The short version

Valid travel documents for every passenger. Appointment details in hand. Medication properly packaged. Nothing prohibited in the luggage. Check the current official requirements a week before you go, because they are the ones that count — not this article, and not the last time you crossed.
